The RDC Story
With deep roots in the heart of Silicon Valley, Radiation Detection Company
has provided all manner radiation dosimetry services to the Healthcare, Nuclear
Power, Veterinary, Dental, Homeland Security and Educational markets since 1949.
Dr. Francis R. Holden, a Certified Health Physicist and Certified Industrial Hygienist
with a doctoral degree in Chemistry, partnered with three other medical/health physics
professionals and co-founded the Industrial Health and Hygiene Association
in San Francisco. In the early 1950s, the company name was changed to Radiation
Detection Company (RDC).
In 1966, at the untimely passing of Dr. Holden, his son Richard, a former professional
pitcher and Business Management graduate from San Jose State University, stepped
in as President. During this time, Richard practiced the ethics and code of operation
built into the DNA of the company by his father. This kind of dedication to fairness,
dignity and respect from day one is part and parcel of RDC’s distinct business culture.
Beliefs such as treating our customers with honesty and integrity, as well as the
belief that our employees are long-term partners and not simply resources have defined
the business and relationships of RDC.
RDC's management team is passionate about the company's core values of honesty,
integrity, customer loyalty and financial stewardship. It is this company's philosophy
that "to whom much is given, much is required." Our commitment to the care of employees
and customers lies at the heart and soul of the organization. Furthermore, RDC supports
organizations and educational institutions that reach out with love and compassion
to those in need at a local and global level, in RDC's own community and those around
the world.
In 1996, Barrie Laing, who had served as RDC’s General Counsel since 1983, became
President of the company, with Richard Holden still remaining a vital part of the
company. Barrie’s fresh take on the market and strategic direction increased business
opportunities. Continued growth during the end of the 20th century made it necessary
to expand the company facilities. RDC dedicated itself to a new movement of business
and transferred to its facilities in Gilroy, California in 2001.
Radiation Detection Company continues to bring new products and services to the
market. In the last decade, RDC was the first to offer online services for our customers
through MyAccount. RDC also expanded its catalog to offer more stand-alone solutions
such as the TASL Image System and Panasonic TLD systems. We continue to offer new
online solutions and remain hard at work on the next generation of dosimetry solutions
to anticipate and excel the needs of a changing marketplace.
